A Defender of Tax-Funded Schooling Offers a Solution to Shootings: Be Aware, Kids!
Gary North
Feb. 13, 2010 We read the following advice here. "A big part of the ways we can prevent school violence has to do with simply being aware. This means being aware of the people around you and being able to spot something that isn't quite right before it escalates." First, who are "we"? Parents are not in school. Children are. Do we want to send our children into an environment where people regularly get shot? Why would anyone want to do this? Answer: "Because tax-funded schools don't charge money." The writer mentions that a University of Alabama, Huntsville assistant professor has been arrested for murdering three other professors. How, exactly, could anyone have prevented this? What signs were there -- signs worth calling in the police and risk getting sued for your diligence? There was also another shooting at a school facility this week. This incident occurred when a teacher shot a principal and vice principal at Inskip Elementary School. What should parents tell an elementary school child what to look for in a teacher? Might this terrify the child? Educators, parents, and students can spend months trying to figure out why people are violent. But while they are busy contemplating such thoughts, the perpetrators are planning their next vicious crime. So to prevent violence in the schools, schools just may need to hire more security guards and cops. Your tax dollars at work!
